Privacy Policy

Effective: April 24, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Sequo ("we", "us", "our") collects when you use sequogame.com (the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described below.

1. Who We Are

Sequo is a free, browser-based version of the Sequence card game operated by an independent developer ("the operator"). The operator is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service. The contact email is sequogame@gmail.com.

2. Information We Collect

We try to collect as little as possible. The categories below describe everything the Service may collect; not all of it applies to every user.

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Display name: a name you type when creating or joining a game. This is shown to other players in your game.
  • Chat messages: any messages you send in the in-game chat are visible to other players in that game and stored for the duration of the match.
  • Account information (only if signed in): if you sign in with Google or via a magic link (a feature that may be enabled for the leaderboard), we receive your email address, basic profile name, and a Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password.
  • Feedback: anything you choose to send via the in-app feedback form, contact email, or social channels.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Game state: while a match is active we store moves, hands, board state, and connection status so the game can stay in sync across devices. Game records are deleted shortly after a match ends.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, screen size, language preference, and pages visited. This is standard server-log data.
  • Analytics: aggregated, privacy-friendly usage statistics via Umami (see Section 4).
  • Error and performance data: when something breaks we collect crash reports, stack traces, and limited session replays via Sentry (see Section 4) so we can fix bugs.

2.3 Information from cookies and similar technologies

  • Strictly necessary storage: we use browser localStorage and a session token to keep you logged in (when applicable) and to remember in-game preferences like sound on/off.
  • Advertising cookies: when advertising is enabled (see Section 5), Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to serve and measure ads.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate the Service — match players, sync game state, deliver chat messages, run the leaderboard.
  • Maintain and improve the Service — fix bugs, improve performance, design new features.
  • Communicate with you — reply to support emails and feedback.
  • Display advertising — show ads through Google AdSense and measure their performance.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to train AI models.

4. Third-Party Services We Use

We rely on a small number of third-party providers to run the Service. Each one only receives the data it needs to do its job:

  • Umami Analytics — privacy-friendly analytics that records aggregate page views, country (from IP, then discarded), browser, and device. No cross-site tracking, no advertising profile.
  • Sentry — error tracking and limited session replay for debugging. Replays mask form inputs and text by default; we use them only to investigate crashes.
  • Google OAuth (when sign-in is enabled) — authenticates leaderboard users. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google AdSense and its advertising partners — see Section 5 for details.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — process server requests and host the database. They may temporarily process IP addresses and request metadata.

5. Advertising and Cookies

Sequo may display ads served by Google AdSense and other third-party vendors.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to Sequo and/or other sites on the Internet.

Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings (https://www.google.com/settings/ads). You may also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

If advertising cookies require consent in your jurisdiction (such as under the GDPR ePrivacy rules in the EEA or under similar UK rules), Sequo will request consent before non-essential cookies are set, via Google's certified consent management.

6. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA / UK Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR / UK GDPR:

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the gameplay you requested.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and improve quality. We balance these interests against your rights.
  • Consent — for non-essential cookies, including personalized advertising. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to fix data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your personal data.
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data.
  • Portability — request a machine-readable copy of certain data.
  • Objection — object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint — with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email sequogame@gmail.com from the address associated with your data. We may need to verify your identity before acting on the request.

8. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and (if applicable) sell or share.
  • The right to delete personal information we have collected from you.
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Sequo does not sell personal information for money. Sharing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising via AdSense may qualify as "sharing" under the CCPA — you can opt out at any time using the methods described in Section 5.
  • The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information.
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising any of the above.

To exercise these rights, email sequogame@gmail.com with the subject line "CCPA Request".

9. Data Retention

  • Active game state: kept for the duration of the match plus a short window so reconnects work. Typically deleted within 24 hours of the game ending.
  • Chat messages: deleted with the game record.
  • Leaderboard accounts (if enabled): kept until you request deletion.
  • Server logs: typically retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
  • Analytics data: aggregated and retained per Umami's defaults.
  • Error reports: retained per Sentry's defaults (typically 30–90 days).

10. Data Transfers

Our servers and third-party processors may be located outside your country. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) where required by law.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures — TLS for all traffic, hashed passwords (where applicable), restricted database access, and regular dependency updates — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA / UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email sequogame@gmail.com and we will delete it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage or in-app where appropriate.

14. Contact

For any privacy questions, requests, or complaints, email sequogame@gmail.com.
